Pinhoe Pinhoe station, photographed here on 4th April 2009, is on the eastern fringes of Exeter and opened on 30th October 1871. One claim to fame held by Pinhoe is that the first ever concrete footbridge to be made at the Southern Railway's nearby Exmouth Junction concrete works was erected here, replacing an earlier wooden structure. The station had a goods yard and, from 1943, a Government Food Cold Store with its own siding.

When the station opened Pinhoe was just a small village, and following the Western Region's takeover of the line, the station was closed from 7th March 1966, the goods yard from 10th June 1967 and the siding for the by now privately owned cold store closed in 1979.

However, with the expansion of Exeter Pinhoe was no longer a small village but a thriving suburb and on 16th May 1983 the station was re-opened. The number of passengers using the station has grown considerably since then.
