New Beckenham

Neil Walkling paid a visit to New Beckenham station on 25th January 2104 while out photographing the Buffer Puffer 11.0 railtour featuring two Class 37 diesels.

While he was there he recorded the station for inclusion on the Southern E-Group website.

The station was built by the SER, the rebuilt station dating back to the SE&CR era.

The canopies are the only remaining part of the original station from its 1904 rebuild, the station itself was originally built in 1866, replacing the original four platform 1864 building situated just north of bridge road with platforms for the spur line to Beckenham Junction.

NewBeckenham The signalbox was sited just where the VDU displays are shown in the photo showing Class 465 (4NET) emu no 465248 on a Cannon Street - Hayes service.
