31858 Arriving in the opposite direction on the same occasion is N class 31858 with a van and a 3-coach Bulleid set. This was the final month of steam on this cross-country route and passenger trains were to be taken over by the class 206 Tadpole units in January 1965.

Looking towards Reigate a colour light signal has taken over the duties of the semaphore above and a modern waiting shelter has replaced the wooden one seen on the previous page.
